The Theory behind Vital Energies™

"There are numberless energy rays in the Universe…All rays and spirits come from the subtle nature of the Universe… The interwoven energy net influences the lives of individual human beings, whole societies and entire races."

Lao Tzu, Hua Hu Ching, 500 BCE

The WORLD is much more than just the physical universe

Increasingly, the western world has come to realize that each one of us is much more than a physical body. Accepting the amazing achievements of traditional Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Western civilization has gradually begun to seriously consider the validity of these ancient approaches to human well-being. These approaches are based on the Knowledge that the Universe consists not only of the physical world but of higher worlds of progressively subtler energies that act in concert with the physical.

From the very ancient times, knowledge about Universal creation and functioning was mainly kept by mystical traditions: Qabalah in the western part of the world, and the Tao of the Chinese and Indian Vedic Philosophies in the eastern hemisphere. Seemingly different to the superficial observer, these vast wells of esoteric science reveal unto the careful researcher amazing similarities in their poetic yet logical and congruent descriptions of the laws of nature. The main idea, if expressed with the terminology of modern science, is that everything in the existing "Universe of Beingness" is made up of primal vibrations occurring in the primal matter called Pleroma by ancient Greeks.

These vibrations are stimulated by Will of "Nothingness" [1,2], which is beyond human comprehension. Both Western and Eastern esoteric sciences agree that primal vibrations created in Pleroma already present two polar qualities: one is receptive and restricted, the other is active and unrestricted (they are Yin and Yang of Chinese philosophy).

Everything In The WORLD Is Made Up Of Vibrations

…primal ones create more complex vibrations,
and those vibrations, create Worlds with different laws

The Qabalah elaborates on types of primal vibrations, naming them as Primal Substance and Primal Energy. "Put the tail of a serpent in its mouth, and permit it to wriggle, and it will symbolically continue to do so…this is an excellent representation of the principle of construction of an atom of the simplest and most ethereal of all substances. To make a symbol of a physical atom of the heaviest kind,

one would need several thousands such serpents, tied up in a knot by interlacing one with another. The construction of atoms depends upon the vortical principle; that of rays depends on the heliacal principle or straight corkscrew whirling. The former is substance, the latter is energy"[3, p.48]. In other words, Qabalah states that primal vibrations, interacting, create new types of vibrations, which really comprise different worlds with different laws. Here is another description of connection of primal energies and substances with those known in our physical world: they"…are to all the energies known to science, as the energies present in a pollen grain are to the strength, elasticity, coloration, and vitality of a tree,- at the moment of its contact with a stigma of the tree. And the (primal) substances … are to those of the world, as the substances of the ovule, before the contents of the pollen cell entered it, are to the tree into which that ovule grows, after having matured into a seed." [3, p.79]

Several Worlds About Other Worlds: Does science know about them?

According to esoteric science, next to our physical world is a subtler realm called the "Etheric World" functioning with laws just slightly different from the world we live in. Etheric substance and energies do not interact directly with those in the physical worlds, which means they do not interact with the only three particles that our world is made of: the electron, proton, and the neutron. That is why etheric "particles" and "energies" can not be registered by equipment of modern science as easily as electromagnetic energy. Nevertheless, more complex interactions between vibrations of physical and etheric worlds exist and were registered experimentally as changes in the properties of physical matter (for instance absorption spectrum) under the influence of "subtle energy" devices.([4, p. B18]

A question can be raised: is there any scientific evidence of existence of the substance other than physical, which is made of the three particles mentioned above? The answer is -yes. Science discovered what is known as "dark matter" during astronomical observations of the movement of galaxies. "Dark matter is strange stuff. It’s all around you but you can’t see it. It’s whistling by your ears but you can’t hear it. It is arguably the most important material in the Universe, but until recently scientists had no idea that it existed. It will decide the fate of the universe, but we have no idea what it is. How can scientists, after so many centuries, still know so little about the workings of the cosmos?"[5, p.27

Qabalistic science gave answers to such puzzles of modern science long before the discovery of "dark matter": " Gravity is called forth in the types of the world of Yetzirah (etheric and astral) in accordance with the nature of substance typified "[3, p. 33]. In other words, substance of the Etheric World is subjected to the gravitational force, which fully explains the existence of "dark matter." As Dr Pullen-Burry, MD, scientist and cabalist, said back in 1925:" Look out, o chemist into space, peer at the atom o physicist, and read for yourselves the lessons discovered by your ancestors. Open your eyes, ye blind." [3, p.34] The next realm in progression of subtlety beyond the etheric world is the so-called astral world. Its vibrations are responsible for human feelings and emotions; next is the mental world, which is correlated with thought processes. The functioning of the human mental, emotional, etheric, and physical structure was investigated extensively by Chinese Traditional Medicine for several millenniums based on the Chi (vital energy) concept which has polar components: Yin and Yang.

Is Chi REALLY IMPORTANT for us humans?

In the human organism, Chi flows through channels connected with organs of the human body; acupuncturists call them "meridians". The appropriate flow of energy through the meridians is equally as important for well-being as the balance of Five Elements. " If the energies are circulating correctly, no evil can attack successfully."(Ling Shu). Blockages in the meridians might cause mental, psychological, or physiological diseases.

Thus, human beings, as everything in the Universe, are comprised not only of the gross matter of the physical world but of the vibrations of subtle realms as well. Referred to as the "Subtle Body" by Indian yogis, subtle components of our organism are no less complex than our physical body. For instance, acupuncture meridians are "veins and arteries" of the etheric body and Chi flows through them like blood through their physical counterparts.

While Traditional Chinese Medicine concentrated its attention on the meridian structure of the subtle body, Indian esoteric science emphasizes the importance of centers where meridians come together: these energy centers of the body are called "chakras".

Ancient science teaches us that all changes in our physical organism, good or bad are actually initiated in the subtle body by Chi flow. The Western culture is beginning to recognize vital importance of this knowledge: " The productivity of Chinese Society in all areas of human endeavor, from natural science to medicine, to spiritual practices, is undeniable, and… is based upon, and expressive of, Qi (Chi) or energy."[ 7 ]

" Mutual transmutation is a fundamental aspect of the law of yin and yang. Each carries within itself the seed of the other, as indicated in the classical Chinese Symbol. Whenever either yin or yang reaches its most extreme phase, it spontaneously transmutes itself to the other pole, thereby re-establishing optimum balance in relation to the particular circumstances. " [6, p.27]

Chi: the Vital Force of the Universe

…it is just another name for creative vibrations of Subtle Worlds…

Do we know how the laws of Chi function?

Traditional Chinese Medicine suggests that the laws of Chi interaction within the human structure can be described by the so called "Five Elements Diagram" .

(Five Elements Diagram at this place)

The Five Elemental Energies of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water encompass all the myriad phenomena of nature. It is a paradigm that applies equally to human. (The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine); … They define the various stages of transformation in the recurring natural cycles of seasonal change, growth and decay, shifting climatic conditions, sounds, emotions, and human physiology. Each energy is associated with the natural element which most closely resembles its function and character, and from these elements they take their names…The elements thus symbolize the activities of the energies with which they are associated.[6, p.49]

The diagram actually states that there are five main kinds of Chi in the Universe with distinctively different qualities. Thus, while the Yin-Yang concept determines the difference in the state of Chi movement, Five Elements define differences in Chi qualities. Interaction of different Elements of Chi can be supportive or restrictive (controlling). There are an infinite amount of Chi patterns of various subtlety (or shall we say of different parameters of vibration) in the Universe; however, all of them can be presented as containing the qualities of the Five Elements in various proportions. The existence of both supportive and controlling qualities in the five elemental energies allow what we call "Dynamic Balance", a state of balanced movement of energies, named in Chinese philosophy as Tai-Chi. This state is considered paramount in achieving true well-being and harmony.
